Stephen Nolan is one of the most frank radio and TV presenters on BBC NI and BBC Radio Five Live – a career that made a long held dream come true for him.

Following the launch of his radio career on CityBeat, he now presents The Stephen Nolan Show on BBC Radio Ulster and has his own weekend phone-in show for BBC Radio Five Live, which takes him to Manchester each weekend.

Stephen’s TV work for BBC NI includes hard-hitting shows such as Nolan Live, Fair Play and Mission Employable. He also teamed up with Christine Bleakley and John Daly to present Children in Need on BBC NI in 2007.

He is not one to sit on the fence and regularly gets passionate about the subjects about which he talks. He takes no nonsense from his interviewees, whoever they may be, and many can't resist the urge to hang up the phone on him.

Stephen has 12 Sony Radio Academy Awards under his belt and holds the record for most Sony Gold awards ever presented to one person.

He was also voted UK Broadcaster of the Year in 2003 and Royal Television Society Regional Presenter of the Year Award in 2005 and 2006.

Self-deprecation plays a certain part in Stephen’s personality, such as making jokes about his weight. He once infamously went on a TV dieting show during which he actually gained a stone in weight – he likes his cream buns!
