John Linehan is best known as the man behind superstar Ulster housewife May McFettridge, but he has now become a star in his own right. His fabulous quick wit, sharp observational comedy mind and infectious personality have led to a host of awards for this one time car mechanic.

His successes include a lifetime achievement award at the Big Buzz Entertainment Awards in 2003 and in 2005 he was invited to attend a function with Irish President Mary McAleese to celebrate his contribution to the Irish Entertainment Industry. His most recent claim to fame is that he has now met both the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen - who presented him with an MBE in February 2007.

Although one of the busiest entertainers in Ireland, John still finds time to help countless charities. In 2003 he flew to Malawi to film a piece for Children of the Crossfire and was so touched by what he witnessed that he went on to organise his own Golf Classic which raised £25,000 and later put his name to a national campaign that raised more than a million pounds. His Golf Classic has now become an annual event and a must for many people’s diaries and he also donates time to a variety of other local charities.

John has been honoured by both UTV and BBC NI who have both made biographical documentaries on him; most recently the documentary Bits of Belfast where he took cameras around the area in which he grew up and continues to live. It proved to be the highest rating observational documentary aired that year.

John is much sought after for corporate events and golf days, football and other sporting events as he is a huge sports fan.

Lives
John was born and bred in north Belfast and still lives there.

Hobbies/Interests
He is a big golf and football fan, especially Manchester United and Celtic. He is an avid theatre goer and enjoys live shows, especially by local writers, including Martin Lynch and Marie Jones.
