George Jones is indisputably one of Northern Ireland’s most accomplished all round entertainers. Best known as a showband legend, TV and radio presenter, comedian and after dinner speaker, he began his career as a member of the band the Monarchs which included his boyhood friend, Van Morrison, with whom he toured Europe.
A natural comic with a very unique and distinctive style of wit, he has developed a reputation as the funniest man in Ireland since the late great James Young. Awarded the prestigious Sony Radio Award for best regional radio presenter, George has continued to combine his razor sharp wit with his natural musical talent much to the delight of countless fans throughout Ireland.
In addition to his many stage and radio successes, George has also hosted BBC Northern Ireland’s most successful ever television game show - Town Challenge. This was quickly followed by repeated sell-out productions at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall and Derry’s Rialto Entertainment Centre with the hugely popular Do You Come Here Often? tribute to the showband era.
Most recently he has returned to his love of radio joining U105 in January 2007 and now presents his own daily afternoon show. George is also currently writing his life story.
A gifted natural entertainer, George is without doubt one of the country’s most popular and highly respected after dinner speakers.
