Denise Watson is a familiar face and voice to sports fans in Northern Ireland. She joined BBC in 1996 having worked on air at Citybeat radio and on television for Sky Sports and ESPN. During her time at the Beeb she has fronted a host of shows including a Rallying show for BBC2, anchor for the sports bulletin on Newsline 6.30 and presenter of Final Score - The Irish League round-up show.
She currently splits her workload across Radio Ulster and television working on current affairs shows Good Morning Ulster, Talkback and Evening Extra and on sports magazine show Season Ticket; while continuing to be a senior reporter on Newsline - the regional News programme on BBC1.
Denise is a mentor for the BBC Blast scheme that encourages teenagers to work in the media and she has also taken workshops for Cinemagic and spoken at schools about how to break into the media.
She is a busy mum to three-year-old Samantha Eve but spends a lot of her spare time working with charities such as the Princes' Trust (for whom she is a NI Ambassador), AIDS 2000 and the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
She is also NI Coordinator for the Sport Relief Initiative and regularly hosts the Banbridge, Lisburn and Ballymena Sports Awards.
Denise was voted the 2008 Sports Journalist of the Year by the IPR Awards
Lives
Denise was born in Belfast and now lives in Lisburn with her husband and daughter.
Hobbies/Interests
She loves reading thrillers by James Patterson and taking long walks. Her favourite television programmes are Desperate Housewives, Greys Anatomy, Big Brother and, of course, all sport – so she feels lucky to be doing what she has always wanted to do!
